iKeePass version 1.2 is now online in the App store. We are sorry but this version is still only available in the USA and Canadue due the still going on discussions about the BIS export license.
Update: We will publish a fixed version as soon as possible for the folder/subfolder error. For an intermediate workaround see e.g. here.
# Category: Utilities
# Updated Feb 11, 2010
# Current Version: 1.1
You mean 1.1, right?
I can’t wait for it in the german appstore
@PsychoD: Ok, versioning is a bit confusing:
1.0 -> AppStore
1.1 -> AppStore, rejected but source code available on GitHub
1.2 -> AppStore: Current version with new features.
The Apple Web does not allow to delete a rejected version (here version 1.1) and the version cannot be changed.
What is BIS export license? And how can there be a problem when the PC software is available from everywhere?
@Andy 1) for BIS, please refer here: http://www.bis.doc.gov/index.htm
2) Because until now you didn´t have one central app store. If you honestly answer the checkbox “Does your program use crypto?” with yes, then Apple *takes* care that you first need a BIS license.
Isn’t that funny? A guy from Germany programs an app in Germany which isn’t available in Germany due to security restrictions
-:
Has anyone of you gathered some experiences with myKeePass? (Which is programmed by a Chinese, besides. World confuse!) Is there a security leak known? I don’t know why, but I mistrust this chinese program and wait for iKeepass to come.
hooray ! I’m glad to see that you managed to get this submission through.
Silly question (aren’t they all) – do you have a description of what’s new in 1.2 ? I couldnt find it on the website nor on sourceforge.
thanks and congrats on this app.
@karsten: do you plan to upload the source of v1.2 also to GitHub?
installed the new version.. I like it..
are there plans to be able to edit the local database on the iPhone (and then maybe sync back later or something? )
Hello, I just just run the update to newest version from the US iTunes Store. And I have a problem with version 1.2. I organized my passwords in nested folders. With 1.2 I have only access to passwords in the first folder level.
Example:
/Email/gmx-passord works (I can see the entry in iKeepass 1.2
/Internet/webshops/amazon-passord doesn’t work. Entry not visible
I didn’t had this behavior in the previous version.
Hey – super! Glückwunsch – congratulations ! .-)
That was a big step – now it is really usable!
There are some points (bugs/feature request) which I would like to give.
@Karten: Are you still using the tracker at SF? Just had a look and many issues which are closed are still open so I got the doubt that the tracker is not used anymore.
Anyways: Please let me know where I can drop my feedback in a structured way!
But again: Thanks a lot for this App and congrats!
I am having trouble with the new version. It will not let me see any subgroups. I see “General” but there is no arrow on the right, and when I touch it, nothing happens. Unfortunately, that is where all of my passwords are under numerous subgroups. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Karsten – looks very good so far. Thanks for keeping up with the app and pushing through the update.
I saw this posted last night and updated immediately – I’m realyl enjoying the improvements, though the search functionality doesn’t seem to be working as expected.
Thanks Karsten – downloaded it & everything looks good thus far.
Ok. At first apperance it looks better but, it still many bugs!!!!
* Search does not work.
* Won’t open a folder that contains ONLY sub-folders.
* Some Subfolders somehow show up in other folders. ( I don’t see the patern yet to this bug.)
With that said… At least it opens my file without compleatly crashing.
Please test your versions with more complex test files before symply pushing them out to us through to the app store. I can understand simple bugs, but We should not be your alfa version testers.
I have the same problems as MoRo stated above. Also the sub-folders are still shown at the bottom of the list – I would definitely prefer to have them at the top (in front of the keys)
Otherwise this version is design-wise a great step forward!
For the next version, please add a feature to copy parts of the comments-text to the clipboard. I really need this feature, because I have a lot of information stored there.
Keep up the good work.
Just got it. sorry for all the international BS!
My database opens up really quick now – it used to take a minute or two, no just a few seconds.
THANKS!
karsten, i read a few minutes on the pasted links page (http://www.bis.doc.gov/index.htm).
and i’m lucky, that i do not need to read and understand…
i wish you luck and time
meanwhile i will use mykeepass because its available, because i do only have an account for the german store.
cheers,
Thank you for all the work you have put into this app! It is much, MUCH more useful to me now simply with the ability to copy the password. You should have called it version 2.0 rather than 1.2 because of all the improvements. In my opinion this app is worth much more than you are charging for it. I would easily have paid $5 (or more) for this app for the ability to have such access to my passwords. I hope you are making a good profit on sales of this app, I wish you well, and I look forward to seeing what else you put up in the app store. Thanks.
@Karsten: Thanks for the update. It’s a significant improvement and very useful.
@MoRo: Stop being such a jerk. You’ve been bitching about this program since it came out. If you don’t like it, go write your own. Most of us are finding the program quite useful, and a bargain at $1.
@ Brian:
Hay! You and I can take this matter of name calling up outside of this board if you wish. But, I beleive serious criticism will ultimately result in a better product. Karston did apologize for a bug after I pointed it out. Those bug fixes, once compleated, will benefit your smart ass as well.
The updated version of iKeepass will not let me look at the entries in my database with only sub folders. My sub folders are under General, but I cannot see them. When I add a entry at the General level, I can then see the sub folders. The sounds like a bug to me.
This version looks much better. However, it still does not support nested folders within the mobile application. Would love to have that fixed!
when can I buy it in Italy? I need!!!
Karsten,
Thank you for the update and all the nice new features.
I too have seen a couple of bugs:
(1) It would not open a folder that contained only sub-folders, so I created a dummy entry directly under the “General” folder as a work-around.
(2) I cannot seem to get the search feature to work. Any hints here?
Possible improvements:
(1) I would prefer to control when the database relocks instead of it always being automatic. Decoding the database is set to take a second on my laptop and thus takes 30 seconds on my iPhone 3GS. Please consider adding some configuration options.
(2) Some of my passwords are quite large, but I cannot see all of the password on the screen. Is there an easy remedy for that?
Thanks again for all your hard work! I would offer to help, but I don’t have a Mac.
Thanks!
Yes, it’s coming along nicely. I have not seen anyone mention this yet.
1. The comment field is still truncating some where after 10 lines of text. I do have some long comment fields.
Gute Arbeit, Danka

Argh!
I don’t have only subfolders under “General” and now I cannot access any of my passwords, including the one that allows me access to the server to update my password file to create the workaround suggested above!
Please fix this bug and release ASAP!
@MP
The same behavior here !
No subfolders – only General and Backup – and I cannot access the General folder !!!!!!!!!
Result: NO ACCESS to my passwords !
What kind of testing are you doing Karsten?
Please submit a fix immediately.
When will kdbx (v2.x) be supported.
Also any plans to fix the sub folder issues
When will the sourcecode of 1.2 be available at github? There’s still version 1.1 there…
For all those wanting to get this all you need to do is buy a US iTunes gift card online. Then you can create a US iTunes account. (At least this used to work).
@emperor
Not emperor but a MORON!
Be thankful for the man’s efforts or get a life!
No one else has made an iPhone port so just get a life.
@MP
MP for Macho Punk or MP for Mega Potato?

Hi, I just download ikeepass for the first time, and I am seeing the subfolder issue reported above. After moving my private folders on the pc database to be within the general folder, I was able to see most (all?) entries, but they were under folders that they should not have been.
I have the same issue that all my subfolders don’t open. This has basically crippled my ability to use the app as I have all my passwords in sub folders.
I’m having the same problems as emperor mentioned. My databases worked previously but after upgrading I can no longer see anything…
I share Wes’ difficulty: “I am having trouble with the new version. It will not let me see any subgroups. I see “General” but there is no arrow on the right, and when I touch it, nothing happens.”
I have successfully downloaded the file from two different servers –the byte count is correct, but there is nothing accessible, only the “General” tab from which I can go nowhere. I did not have this difficulty in version 1.
I hope you can address this for those of us who want to use this program!
Thanks for your effort on this project.

It would also appear that the size for Comments is not as large as the PC app. Not all text is displayed.
It would also appear that not all of the text in the comments field stored in the PC app (v1.17) is available for viewing in iPhone v1.1
…ikeepass for the Germans…it would be nice if it could be for free in the itunes store for a short time…
you know open source and so…
In case you guys missed it,
Your folders all have to have a password entry in it. Without a regular entry in it the sub folders do now show.
Great App! Keep up the good work!!!
Maria,
Apple requires ‘free’ apps to remain free forever. If, instead, you charge a fee, however small, you can change the price as the value of your product changes. On the other hand, with a price probably of less than one Euro (99cents here in Canada) I really don’t believe the price Karsten has set is unreasonable.

It’s impossible to buy outside US/Canada without an US Credit Card. I’ve found a solution for other countries: MyKeePass.
@David: the reason people ask is that when it is costing nothing people from other parts of the world can get it. You can open an itunes account for free stuff you just can’t open an itunes account and pay with non-american means.
Not to mention that the dev once wrote he wants to publish it for free
Also I’ve gotten quite a few apps that had a special time when they offered their app for free. So this should be possible.
@Sebastian
I appreciate the efforts, but I am understandably frustrated. I didn’t get nasty, and, unlike yourself, I didn’t get personal.
But, I didn’t respond to you to start a flame war, or to comment how ridiculous your insults were (Macho Punk or Mega Potato?! seriously, what are you, 7 years old?!)
I did respond to mention that, in fact, someone else has ported KeePass to the iPhone:
http://mykeepass.blogspot.com/
There is also a plug-in converter for KeePass that also claims to export to a format for the iPhone:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/keepassiphone/
You have made significant progress over the 1.0 version. Can’t wait for a few extra’s though. I too have the search problem. Where is the proper place to leave bug requests? I would also like to request the app be able to go into landscape mode so I can see some of my longer passwords. I would also like the ability to use the database in the dropbox app already on my iPod. Can you add that easily? Thanks again for your hard work.
whatever. if the app is not available in my local app store, I guess you don’t want my money. I have no problem with downloading it for free. god bless jailbreak.

Workaround.
Add a New Entry in the Main Group of any subfolder. Then save the file.
Then go on your iPhone and make sure “use local data base” is turned OFF.
You should be able to see all of the passwords. This has worked for me.
Even if you have a General Folder and all your Sub Folders are under it, it will not work. You have to add a New Entry in the General Folder to see all the Sub Folders.
I’m converting our work kdb’s over to KeePass 2.0 file formats – will this support it?
