Current status #3

Since I didn´t post any news here for some time: there is no real new news yet ;-(
I published iKeePass to the iTunes Admin Area, but it´s still waiting for export compliance check status. Apple has to approve my email I sent to the bis. Here you can find a discussion about this from other open source projetcs. Let´s hope Apple will do this in the near future.

Is there anything that can be done to help with this and get it moving again? It’s a shame to see all the work going to waste and not being used. Is this even still alive?

So how many of us have contacted apple to let them know we are waiting on this app. Sitting here wining about the delay in comments certainly isn’t going to resolve the issue. And as for the app being dead, it is only as dead a the community surrounding it is willing to let it be. I have been leaving polite feedback notes to apple daily letting them know that I am waiting on this app, and letting them know why the existing options do not answer my need. jlpvideo mentioned “the unlikely chance that apple is sensitive to _peer_ pressure” demonstrates the misconception that we are peers. We are customers, and Apple does respond to market pressure, even if it sometimes happens very slowly. We need to stop approaching the issues as users of keepass looking for an iphone solution, but as iphone customers looking for a solution that meets our collective requirements.

I don’t mean to be harsh, but it doesn’t appear that the developer here is putting much effort into communication, getting approval from Apple, or discovering a way around the current block. You willfully offered to provide a much desired application for the Keepass community, and then you poorly executed the whole process. If you hadn’t “stepped up,” mostly likely another party would have, who are most likely more motivated than you (hard not to be). Please, work on making some progress.

I’ve tried the other password applications on the iPhone and they are pathetic/expensive, particularly if you want Windows and iPhone sync.

But I can’t see this project as being anything but pathetic either. Two things just don’t ring true. One is that there is no version for KeePass version 2. Secondly, I have friends that have had problems with getting their apps on iTunes but pressure and resubmitting has gotten them ok’d, and in less than 3 months.

I just don’t believe this is for real and will deal with one of the pathetic applications rather than this unreal application.

If Apple hasn’t done anything by now then this app is dead.

  6. APPLE, Help us. I will buy your phone if you approve this!!

  7. Why can’t this be released on Cydia or Installer via pwnage rather than depending on the Apple Store?

  8. t3chm@n says:

I have submitted my request to iTunes support as well in hopes that it may be approved.
I also vote to getting it on Cydia if there is no movement from Apple.

BTW: for those that wish to access Their windows Keepass Database from a Mac use the following app: keepassX

In order to get read / Write access to the database file from BOTH os’s you will need to enable NTFS support.
You can find that here: http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/
I have been using this for well over a year now and it is superb!
Now all that is needed is to get this on the iPhone and take it mobile!
    Regards,

i second Michael’s idea of uploading this on Cydia/Installer instead. still looking forward to this.

Tuis project looks really read. Nut I al sondering why nobosy jas taken tje opportunity to build this app from scratch. Isn’t there anyone else with appropriate coding skills?

And for the developer of this app: if you have stopped development, why not publish the GPL code somewhere so that anyone else can continue coding?

    Hope to hear more….

Other similar programs have already been available in App Store (not open source though – I think). What is the difference why this can’t be authenticated by Apple?

  12. t0bey says:

Hey Karsten, I really beg you … pleeeaaassseee reconsider your “masterplan” of offering ikeepass on app store. I’m really afraid that it’ll least a many years to get it thru the compliance check. What about offering it in cydia store? I guarantee – I’ll buy it for nearly every price! (umhh… at least under 30€ and that’s a lot for an iPhone app. ;)

Also gib Deinem Herzen einen Ruck und entscheide Dich für den Cydia Store. Wir alle werden es Dir danke und Dich reich machen! ;)

    Take care

I just stumbled on this event as I am pretty new to the Iphone. Any further news from the Apple folks? If this app gets passed it would be the most important on my phone. I’m already using Linux (mostly) and Winders ( she I have to) versions. Keep up the great work!

  14. iPhoneFAQ says:

In my eyes this project is dead… No feedback here, stupid (sorry for being rude, but under this circumstances..) fixation to Appstore (which doesn’t approve it now since 5 months). I’ now thinking this project is contra-productive because it avoids other developers to start developing an App which is Keepass compatible. Sorry for this a little rude sounding statement, but whatelse should we think right now? You don’t help us to understand the situation..

  15. joulio says:

No feedback since lot of months.
    No source code.

Perhaps this iphone portability is only a joke ?
    pathetic….

  16. iPhoneFAQisAdHed says:

    I think you are a D Hed

  17. Gunter Wagner says:

Why would someone hold this still back after attempting 5 months to get it certified by Apple Appstore? I am afraid the project must have other problems, otherwise it would have appeared on Cydia long time ago if Apple Appstore gave it a miss for whatever reason. I love Keepass and use it on other platforms, so I was eagerly awaiting the iPhone version, but now I start to suspect that it will never happen…
    What a drag!

  18. Matt says:

    @iPhoneFAQ

You’re completely right. This project has turned into counter-productive vaporware. It could have been one-and-done with Cydia. This guy should at least open up the source so someone else can push it to Cydia.

  19. Alberto says:

    Hi there,
I come to ikeepass site from the keepassword master site, and I’m really upset with Apple. What they are waiting for? There is a bunch of applications in the appstore which are related to password keeping, why they did not realease the permit for ikeepass? I do not want a password manager from Apple, I want to open my keepass database on my iphone. Period. So, please, don’t give up. Is there any way to push apple from the user side? Is it ok the appreview address above?

  20. Alberto says:

    I wrote to Apple.

  21. Ken says:

I have to agree that this project is pretty much dead. Also, it goes against the open-source philosophy by not publishing the source. For example, the WordPress iPhone application at wordpress.org has source code available and that has never stopped it from being published in the App Store. Sorry to sound harsh, but the entire if I don’t publish to AppStore excuse is completely unfounded. I know that as a user, I probably have no right to criticize the developer, but one must consider the facts.

  22. alex says:

This should definitely be release on Cydia now…after all, it has been five months as iPhoneFAQ mentioned.

    too bad

  24. All-Purpose Guru says:

Has anyone heard from the developer since January?

I can try to push this one, but I don’t see a point if the developer is just going to let it die. I’ve had one app on the app store be retracted because the developer didn’t want to support it anymore.

Apple *is* responsive to poking by their developers. Remember, they MAKE MONEY off these things.

Hell, if I can get the sourcecode, I’ll try pushing it through myself. I’m an iPhone app developer and I know that if an app takes longer than a week or two there is a problem that has to be attended to.

If the developer wants me to try to push on this (which I can do) he can please email me.

  25. All-Purpose Guru says:

OK. I’m officially an idiot for missing the future threads. But I’m still willing to help if it’s needed.

  26. [...] iKeePass team submitted the iKeePass app to the Apple App Store for review back in December of 2008.  Apparently Apple wants them to make some changes before the app will be released.  Once it [...]

  27. Squelsh says:

    Hey guys.

I understand your hope for the AppStore, but I think Apple had it’s chance…
Go on and publish on Cydia! Please.

  28. Geri says:

Hi, give us the app at Cydia !!!! please

  29. no says:

Man, if you have balls, publish it on cydia!

  30. AmezorC says:

I say send it to Cydia!

  31. Tatoosh says:

Yes, please give us the App.
I also would pay for it ;)
