Current status #3

Since I didn´t post any news here for some time: there is no real new news yet ;-(
I published iKeePass to the iTunes Admin Area, but it´s still waiting for export compliance check status. Apple has to approve my email I sent to the bis. Here you can find a discussion about this from other open source projetcs. Let´s hope Apple will do this in the near future.

New Cydia store is the right choice.

    +1. Hurry up :-)

  2. Patrick Patience says:

I’m with the rest now. You’ve got an awesome application going to waste because of lame-ass restrictions Apple has. Jay Freeman just came out with the Saurik, and within the next couple weeks he said he’ll be accepting third-party apps not previous available in Cydia. I say you wait a few weeks and as soon as you’re ready launch it in Cydia for a buck or two.

  3. matt says:

it looks like you are not alone: http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/2009/03/pocket-rejection-app-store-submission-troubles-hit-home/

i also sent a request with the feedbackform some weeks ago, but now i just have to say: +1 for Cydia

  4. john says:

nudge. Any news yet? We havent had an update yet this quarter…

  5. Meester Bob says:

Ditto here – I think iKeepass is more suited to Cydia – If it’s taking this long just for the initial version, just imagine how long it might take for bug fix releases? Between that, the price of *free*, and the expanded capabilities available to jailbroken software (like….copy/paste? :) I think we’d *all* be better off if you would at the very least release your source to saurik or someone else who could farm it out to the appropriate people to work on if you don’t feel like dealing with Apple anymore
–Thanks for all the hard work you’ve already put in dealing with the big Apple!

  6. Greg says:

PLEASE Be patient not all phones are jail broke

  7. Agglo says:

As of yesterday, my phone has joined the growing Cydia community. I would love to see iKeepass in the official store. But if Apple cannot provide a target date: +1 for Cydia.

  8. Tim says:

    Perhaps something to consider:
More people seem to have this problem with apple, but comments at this blog [url=http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/2009/03/pocket-rejection-app-store-submission-troubles-hit-home/] suggest you re-submit the app and it MIGHT be approved after all!

    [quote]
We had an experience submitting an app that was “pocket rejected” as you say staying unchanged in their system for over 5 months. Once we settled it as a sunk cost one team member had the idea to remove the app from the store and then resubmit the exact same binary and description. The app was approved in 2 days. Just thought I’d share that experience. Best of luck dealing with this!

  9. Bryon says:

Yes, that sounds like a great idea… there’s a lot of us waiting to see this app go live. Thanks for the effort.

  10. kanz says:

Year, i heard too, please try resubmit these great app !!!
    good luck

  12. Moep says:

I very much doubt this app will ever get approved for the AppStore. There are multiple issues (Possibly charging money is NOT one of them):
    1) Strong encryption & export laws – No go
    2) Open Source but using Apple SDK ? That won’t work
    3) Release in AppStore without providing source upon request ? Uh-Oh. I don’t think Apple want to get involved here

I see no reason why you’re not using the unofficial SDK and releasing it on Cydia instead. You could feed data to “Clippy” and be able to copy paste in browsers, SSH sessions or whatever (maybe even use it’s API directly). That way iKeePass would have the potential to become ultimately more powerful than by using just the official SDK.

As for waiting this long to get approved … I’m sorry but that’s just ridiculous. Get it out there

Like others here I don’t see why you don’t put a price on your App, either. Make it 0.99 or 1.99 and sell it via Cydia. People who don’t want to buy it can either download the source and compile it themselves or acquire it from somebody else. Only people who actually bought it will automatically receive updates, though. There is no issue with charging for open source software provided you hand out full compilable source code upon request or make it available in some other way.

  13. wx says:

OMG. I really appreciate the work but please consider release the source code or publish it on Cydia! I’ve been waiting for this since last year.

It’s probably faster for someone to write the code from scratch and publish it on cydia than to wait for the apple to approve it from NOW.

  14. Manz says:

With the new Cydia Store, you will be able to sell your programm there..!!

I think you should resubmit the Application and charge at least 0,99 € for it. Me personally i would pay up to 5 € for keepass on my iphone. Great work should recieve some payment…and apple will more likely approve your program, if they earn 30 % of the selling price.

  15. flow says:

    hi!

yeah! please resubmit this great app but be sure to be compatible with the new sdk released today!

    as from the sdk-presentation’s q&a:
A question about the approval process, Phil is handling: “96% are approved, but there are things we have to watch out for. There have been issues, issues about content that’s available to children for instance. But at the end of the day, we have a great solution that’s working, and we’re constantly making it better. We’re tracking these numbers, and speaking with developers, and we are constantly doing that.”

maybe set it to 0,99 and remove the pricetag later on…

    cheers
    flow

  16. HPLoveCraft says:

Great respect for your developmemt and long breath in working on such an important project for many ambitious iphone users.

But i agree with the writers above: It’s really time to go out with it.

So Publish it on Cydia , get a few bucks and fine for all of us.

    cheers
    HPLoveCraft

  17. Patrick Patience says:

@Moep: There’s already various open source applications in the App Store including Colloquy, TwitterFon, Now Playing, Funambol, and many more.

  18. Robert says:

We are now a quarter of a year further and no sign whatsoever about the status at Apple. My suggestion is to clearly put a deadline for a release or expect somebody to release another ikeepass named application in the wild for the iphone. That is imho the real risc of just waiting to let Apple destroy the original idea of the application.

  19. zwaffelaar says:

Id like to pay for keepass too if it will be available. Please resubmit it !

  20. bigl00z3 says:

I would also pay at least 5$ for this app if it would make Apple quicker to approve it…

  21. Sean Dexter says:

    I’m getting rather impatient :o )
    Don’t go Cydia, please!
Resubmit to Appstore, but hurry up, please :o )

  22. jlpvideo says:

Please-oh-please-oh-please … do whatever it’s going to take to get this app published……. (please?)

  23. NextUser says:

Please, keep trying and resubmit it to the store.
Really can’t wait to get it.

  24. jerel says:

    I love keepass
    I like my iphone
please keep at it as it will be a great app.
Especially now they have copy and paste in the next OS 3.0
good on you for doing it!

  25. iPhonner says:

Please resubmit software. And please update status on this site.

  26. Robert says:

Looking forward to ikeepass as well. First time I heard about Cydia, have to go and check of out but I’d rather continue using my iPhone as it is. :-)

  27. Dean says:

Please do NOT go to Cydia!

  28. zule says:

I hate to say it, but this is pathetic. No updates, no source, no program. Im switching to another app now instead even though they suck in comparison.

  29. Manz says:

    This project is just dead.

  30. Sean Dexter says:

Can you please post an update or give a life sign?
I’m curious if the project is still alive or not?
    Thanx in adv!

  31. matt says:

Same here, i think this Project is dead….

    >I hate to say it, but this is pathetic. No updates, no source, no program. Im >switching to another app now instead even though they suck in comparison.

  32. Rob says:

For me, you can stick it on Cydia. I’d love to see this app since I use Keepass for all my password management needs. From what I’ve seen of it thus far, looks brilliant!

  33. iPhoneFAQ says:

iPhone OS 3.0 have its own password manager implemented, take a look (in german): http://www.iphone-ticker.de/2009/03/23/password-manager-und-weitere-screenshots-zum-iphone-os-30/

Do you have an own deadline or do you just wait for ever?

  34. Stone says:

Most apps have a 3-10 day approval deadline. Maybe your app got rejected ?! Most people just resubmit the app with minimal changes and it usually gets approved within 5 business days.

  35. Bob says:

Any update on the release of iKeepass? I use Keepass extensively on my desktop and USED to use it extensively on my Pocket PC. I am desperately missing this app on the iPhone.

  36. Josh says:

I vote for those that are saying to keep trying through the App Store.

I jailbroke my phone in the past, and I found that jailbreaking it resulted in a lot more instability and slower response time on the phone. Yes, I am a sysadmin and network engineer and I know how not to screw up a mobile device — it’s just that Apple does a lot of tight design in their initial software rollout and now I understand why they can’t support jailbroken phones.

An earlier poster had the suggestion of cancelling and resubmitting the app to the App Store?

  37. jlpvideo says:

Hope I’m not stepping on the developer’s toes here… but I had a few minutes to burn this morning, so I decided to hunt down some contact info for the person/group that’s responsible for reviewing and approving/disapproving iPhone apps…. 20 minutes on hold resulted in an email address to which questions regarding an app can be addressed.

FWiW, on the unlikely chance that Apple is sensitive to peer pressure, an email regarding this app can be addressed to….

    appreview@apple.com

  38. Michal says:

    Hi,

As anyone here, I am waiting for first release of ikeepass since a few months.
I don’t understand why the project’s developper dont publish their app to another platform repository as cydia.

Imagine when they’ll have to publish new release to fix some issues.
We’ll have to wait six months each time ?

So I decided the last month to dev this app myself.
I am not here to promote my personnal project but il wanted to inform actual developper of ikeepass.

    Bye ;)

  39. BlackDiamond says:

Please, please, please resubmit or ask for reasons, why it is not accepted yet! I am, like others, using KeePass extensively on PC, USB, Windows Mobilie Phone and need to have it on the “original” iPhone. I would like to use one (synchronised) database.
Please do not consider publishing it on Cydia. Not jailbroken iPhone community becomes bigger, as they start to sell it freely in Apple stores in the US now. Taking a few money for the app is not an issue.

  40. LifeHacker says:

Does anybody have the faintest clue as to how far down the line this application is to being published? Thanks

  41. Gerald says:

    Put it on Cydia please!

Desperately waiting an for an iKeepass :-)

  42. Garrick says:

I don’t mean to be harsh, but it doesn’t appear that the developer here is putting much effort into communication, getting approval from Apple, or discovering a way around the current block. You willfully offered to provide a much desired application for the Keepass community, and then you poorly executed the whole process. If you hadn’t “stepped up,” mostly likely another party would have, who are most likely more motivated than you (hard not to be). Please, work on making some progress.

  43. Mike says:

This is too bad, way too many people want this.. but its dead in the water. I suppose I’ll wait for v3 then start looking for alternatives. However nothing else seems to be Linux friendly.

  44. Umm?? says:

    Ok guys,

Please refrain from thinking that the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 password sync feature will have any effect whatsoever on demand for iKeepass. As a user of Vista, Outlook, iTunes, and the iPhone, I’m all too familiar with the little bugs and discrepancies that pop up (in contacts, appointments, etc) as a result of using iTunes as a middleman. Now, if iTunes already struggles to sync those things correctly, why the hell would I trust it to sync my most sensitive information?! Hence the *obvious* need for this app.

Don’t drop the ball on this. You’re in danger of losing quite a large portion of your users if you do.

  45. Fernando says:

    Hi:

I’m waiting for this app… please let me know when is released.

    Thanks.

    Bye

  46. Mark says:

I went ahead and sent off an e-mail to the address that jlpvideo posted. Need some pressure!! :)

  47. [...] iKeePass nun seit Monaten, offensichtlich ohne jegliche Reaktion von Seiten Apples, wenn man dem iKeePass-Projektblog glauben [...]

  48. Needit says:

WTF is taking sooooo long?? Why wouldnt this app be approved??

  49. Ah, blame Apple! The policy of Apple sometimes reminds me of the policy of Microsoft in the bad old days. They are struggling for monopolies where they can.

Thumbs up to the developer! We, Aktion Freiheit statt Angst, really need this tool, because we share passwords within the admin-team using KeePass.

    Best regards,
    Ricardo Cristof

I know it’s really annoying to answer all the requests for ikeepass. But no news are bad news. Karsten, give us new informations about ikeepass, please. :-)
