Good news&bad news

Since I moved to a new appartment I didn´t have a real internet access during the last months ;-(

I got contacted by a apple employee which is responsible for the crypto export stuff. Since the status of BIS for open source seems more complicated as thought before, in the first step we will publish iKeePass just in the USA and Canada. For these two countries, there is now crypto export status needed. This is good news for all of us, because now iKeePass will be reviewed by Apple and hopefully be published in the AppStore.
When this is done, the source code of iKeePass will be published and we can continue to solve the crypto BIS problems so we get published in all other countries too.
If there are any people out there with more experience with the BIS stuff, please get in contact with me!

Yes, here’s to a quick approval by Apple!

I use keepass on multiple computers (and sync the pw file with a sync service). I’d rather not switch to a different pw storage system, so I’ll be checking the appstore regularly!

    Cheers!!

Hey, that’s good news… At least now we know that Apple hasn’t just thrown the application right down the toilet…

I have an iPhone developer account, so I can compile the application myself and use it on my devices, besides helping on improving it. Anyway, if someone is so desperate to try the application outside the US and Canada, it’s quite easy to open an itunes US account.

But I’d really say that these are mainly good news with a small drawback :)

  15. Crypted says:

How about releasing the “iKeepass.app” so we with an jailbroken iPhone in Germany and other countrys can put it on the Phone.

  16. Snapper says:

  24. Larkki says:

Is this open source project or not? And are you putting a price tag for this?
Just curious, because I didn’t find any source code from sourceforge and you haven’t said anything about it…

    3. How do I get an ECCN?

There are three ways to determine the ECCN for your product.
    1. Determine the classification yourself.

Review the alphabetical index to the Commerce Control List (CCL) (Supplement 1 to Part 774 of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). The index will give an ECCN for each item listed. Look in the corresponding CCL category to determine if your item is described by that ECCN. The CCL is available on the EAR Website. You may need to review more than one ECCN description. Instructions for using the CCL are found in EAR Part 738.

    2. Go to the source.

Ask the manufacturer, producer or developer of the item. If the item has been exported in the past, they may know the ECCN, what countries require a license, and whether a license exception may be used. Information on license exceptions can be found in EAR Part 740.

    3. Get an official classification from the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

Submit a classification request on on-line through the Simplified Network Application Process Redesign (SNAP-R). For instructions on obtaining a Company Identification Number and PIN number to access the on-line SNAP-R system, go to http://www.bis.doc.gov/snap/pinsnapr.htm

Instructions and additional guidance on submitting a classification request is available on this Web site http://www.bis.doc.gov/licensing/cclrequestguidance.html and http://www.bis.doc.gov/licensing/bis_eccn.pdf

This is the only way to receive an official BIS classification of your item. While BIS can provide oral advice and guidance on using the CCL, we cannot give definitive classification decisions over the phone.
