Need for change

The first attempt for the Apple review process was rejected due some needed changes. E.g. we have to display the correct network status when downloading a keepass database. We will fix this requests and hope there will not follow more requests.

Update 3. June 2009: Rejected again. Apple wants some error messages to be changed.

I really hope that this comes to fruition. It would be amazing to carry all of my existing password information in the iPhone.

  2. Squelsh says:

    Hey guys.

I understand your hope for the AppStore, but I think Apple had it’s chance…
Go on and publish on Cydia! Please.

  3. Miekanos says:

Hoping it will be approved soon!
I’m really missing this app on my iphone.

  4. Dozing off... says:

Will it ever happen? Is this site again dead for months?

My two answers: no and yes. What are your answers?

Finally more than fed up with this eternal waiting!!

Somebody out there to get it a real try? Let’s move on…

    Cheers,
    P

Would just like to send my best wishes and hopes of success in the AppStore process!

I tend to switch back and forth from jailbroken and vanilla, depending on how well important stuff is working for me at the time. So if a Cydia- or Icy-based release won’t hurt you in the work with AppStore, please give it a try as well.

I’ve been relying on KeePass for many years now, currently on both Windoze and Linux and I would, by the way, gladly pay several dollars for a KeePass compatible iPhone App. (:

  6. t3chm@n says:

Any word on this moving forward?

  7. Ricky says:

I actually need it on my iPhone because I have become dependent on my KeePass and my iPhone. Thanks for your efforts. The AppsStore is the way to go. I have downloaded so much crap from the AppStore that they should not have approved, I am sure the KeePass version could easily pass the standards. Keep up the great effort.

  8. Anon says:

This is pathetic apple. Get your shit together and allow this guy to release this thing.

  9. Marin Burch says:

I know you must be busy, … but don’t let the iTunes people stop you!! I can’t wait for the iPhone edition of something I use nearly every day on my computer and am super pleased with. I NEED the iPhone version and I am waiting as fast as I can. GOOD LUCK!!

  10. mischi says:

why there is no reaction ???

a lot of people are aksing to publish at cydia.
Do you only see the $$$ that you might earn from the appstore ?
from my point of view – there was a little different idea behind opensource software.

a lot of people like to use this great software also on the iphone -
PLEASE PUPLISH on CYDIA ASAP !!!!!!

    kindly
    mischwa

  11. w00dst0ck says:

    @All: Cool down!

I think he is doing this in his spare time.

  12. mischi says:

    @w00dst0ck

agree – but why he don´t use the cydia way -
it much more easyer the the way with the appstore
and he would have a lot of satisfied users.

  13. kiiki says:

    I give up.

  14. matt says:

@mischi: He wants to give this app also to non Jailbreak-user. There was a problem in the past, where your app doesn’t make it through the approval process if it is already on cydia. But that was a year ago, nowadays there are apps in the app store which were on cydia before.

  15. Adam says:

So close to a solution. I just got a request from upper management for a password program for the iphone. I will try to delay the decision for another few weeks :) . We use keepass already so this is the perfect solution.

I just wish the iphone could support some kind of dongle to store a key on as well as needing a password like the desktop keepass can be setup.

  16. Jed says:

keep it legit guys! go mainstream on this one.
Once approved by Apple we will have our app!
thanks heaps for developing this guys!
i can’t wait to see it.
    REALLY REALLY useful

  17. Rodger says:

I agree with Matt… One good example is TuneWiki… Is has been for a long time in Cydia and this week it appeared in iTunes Store

  18. Rembert says:

If you’re so desperate to get this app, then do your thing as well: send reminders, complaints etc. to Apple. If they only receive 15 of such mails, they will ignore them. If they receive 5000 of them, things could be different.

Complex apps like Navigon get approved within weeks (days?) but something basic like ikeepass takes months. I don’t know why. Maybe it has something to do with the export regulations of cryptography. Maybe Apple (or the NSA) requires a secret backdoor in the software. I don’t know. But the silence is deafening.

Anyway, if one really needs this software, then why not write it yourself? Keepass is open source so all the tools are available if you’re able to program a bit.

I’m happy to wait for any developer to get their solution through the Apple censors. In the mean time I just store the password container on the iPhone, accessible via WLAN.

  19. nilsbyte says:

i personally cancelled to use KeePass, KeePassX and i really don’t want to wait ages for iKeePass. I switched to Wallet, which is a clean and simple Password Safe. It has a OSX-only desktop app and a iPhone app (available in US and German App Store) for 2.99 – it can sync via wifi and is very easy to use. http://www.acrylicapps.com/wallet/

  20. zp says:

I agree, seems like cryptography may be an issue. Naturally I don’t think many people would be interested if there is any sort of back door or the encryption algorithm is not transparent. I use Keepass for the very fact that it is open source and one can be reasonably sure of its security. Perhaps we should hire a programmer to release an open Cydia version of keepass. I for one would contribute the first $50 to the bounty.

  21. André says:

Hope this helps to get iKeePass on the way:

    http://iphone-rejectdb.appspot.com/

A website that is meant to collect all rejection reasons. Hope you keep up the work and let all the people who commented know what’s going on. I’m sure you’l find support for your work, but please write a new post, so that we know your project isn’t down.

    Thanks.

  22. Les says:

Keep at it guys, looking forward to hearing some positive results in the not too distant future. It’s a great app.

    Cheers.

  23. mischi says:

i am more frustratet about the progress than ever !!

i am now shure that iKeepass is VAPORWARE :-(
    and nothing else !!

It bad – but it is !!!

  24. Agglo says:

Everyone in here who is demanding quicker results: Shut up and have a go yourselves! It’s easy to ask other people to do free work for you. Why not offer the project some support (in case you have any relevant skills)? I didn’t think so.

There are alternatives if you really really can’t wait for a password safe on your iPhone. Maybe Apple would be quicker if it was a paid app (which I wouldn’t mind btw if licenced code allows). Keep going guys!

  25. Gerald says:

This really is not helping. There probably would be a well working Keepass for the iPhone out from someone else if it weren’t for this “joke” project which always claims to have a public release just around the corner.

AFAIK nobody has seen any code so far, so perhaps 5 photoshopped screenshots are all there is. Certainly would explain a lot.

  26. Sebastian says:

There is more than the screenshots! I got a very early version in a closed beta tester program. The version is from November 2008, is read only and has some bugs. But already shows what to expect and it looks promising.
Sadly since then I have not heared more from Karsten.

  27. Uli says:

I’m using Keepass for Win, MAC and PDA and i wait for ikeepass.

Apple read this and help us!!

  28. mischi says:

    :-) :-)

    V A P O R W A R E at it best´s

    i love it !!!! and
i am looking forward to read any habilitation
    about this all here

    :-) :-)

  29. Jason says:

Import your KeePass DB to LastPass.com, install their bookmarklets, and sync the bookmarklets to your iPhone. Job’s done!

  30. mischi says:

    LASTPASS – good idea !!
i love password store/managment over the internet
and i am shure that no one else knows my passwords
    with solutuions like this ;-)
